Commissioned to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).
Inspired by the electromagnetic experiments of William Sturgeon (1783-1850) which led to the development of the generator and motor.
Forms also mirror the arches of the railway viaduct and architecture adjacent to the site.
